The 4th General Meeting of the European EIC Pathfinder project MAPWORMS – Mimicking Adaptation and Plasticity in WORMS – took place in mid-March at The BioRobotics Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Italy.
MAPWORMS develops soft robots inspired by marine worms, using programmable, stimuli‑responsive materials to achieve shape change, large deformation, and peristaltic motion. The project aims to translate biological adaptation and plasticity into new engineering principles for next‑generation soft robotic systems.
Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, together with ACMIT is currently carrying out a series of experimental tests on soft robotic prototypes, preparing them for further validation. ACMIT’s key role in the project is to develop concepts for using the bio‑inspired robotic elements in medical applications and to test them as proof‑of‑concept prototypes.
