Dr. Tamás Haidegger, Ph.D was promoted to full professor

ACMIT’s long-term scientific partner and employee, Dr. Tamás Haidegger has been appointed full professor by the President of Hungary, Katalin Novák, together with nine other lecturers at Óbuda University, in Budapest, Hungary. The ceremony took place in the Sándor Palace, in the capital city of Hungary on 5th September 2023.  In addition to the habilitation and long teaching experience, an outstanding, scientific achievement are also required to hold the title.

Prof. Dr. Tamás Haidegger’s main research areas are surgical robotics, teleoperation, image-guided therapy in the field of medical technology. He is currently professor at Óbuda University, the director of the University Research and Innovation Center and the technical leader of medical robotics research at the Antal Bejczy iRob Intelligent Robotics Centre.

Prof. Haidegger is the research area manager of “Therapy Planning and Workflow Support” at ACMIT. This research area is dealing with new methods for planning of treatment in the pre-operative phase as well as with different aspects of workflow support for surgical procedures.

As an active member of IEEE Robotics an Automation Society, IEEE SMC, IEEE EMBC and euRobotics aisbl, Prof. Haidegger is a national delegate of the ISO / IEC standards committee. According to the Hungarian Science Bibliography, he belongs to the D1 (top 10%) researchers by age group in Hungary. He is a two-time Bolyai Award-winning researcher, he received the Bolyai Plaque of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences for excellent research in 2017 and he also won the Bolyai+ scholarship twice. In 2022, he was listed as one of the top 2 percent researchers in the world published by Stanford University.

Prof. Haidegger is furthermore the co-founder of the longtime ACMIT company partner, the HandinScan Zrt., focusing on the development of Semmelweis Hand Hygiene System for objective hand hygiene control in the medical environment. ACMIT contributed the product development and the prototyping in this joint project.
