During a two-day MAPWORMS workshop in Pontedera (Italy), the ACMIT team, together with colleagues from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (SSSA), successfully performed the first-ever tests of newly developed magnetised scanning tools in a realistic experimental environment.
The experiments made use of the OctoMag magnetic actuation system, as well as a dedicated optical sensing device developed by ACMIT.
The SSSA magnetic system, equipped with eight high‑performance magnetic coils, enables the generation of complex, time‑varying magnetic fields.
Using this advanced setup, the teams carried out a series of measurements — with very promising results.
Building on these encouraging first tests, further investigations are now underway, focusing on optimising scanning efficiency and improving the quality of the sensor data.
