The event took place on <strong>September 13, 2025, at the R\u00e1k\u00f3czi Center in Odorheiu Secuiesc, Romania<\/strong>, <strong>under this year\u2019s theme: \u201cWhat if?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prof. Haidegger<\/strong> serves as a <strong>professor at \u00d3buda University in Budapest<\/strong> and is the <strong>technical lead at the Antal Bejczy Center for Intelligent Robotics<\/strong>. He is also the <strong>director of Initium Venture Labs<\/strong>, the university\u2019s technology transfer company, and a <strong>senior researcher at ACMIT<\/strong>. His work focuses on minimally invasive surgical simulation and training, medical robotics and usability\/workflow assessment through ontologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his keynote lecture titled <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tedxudvarhely.com\/speakers\/dr-haidegger-tamas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cWhat if surgical robots took over the operating rooms\u2014and there were no more human surgeons?\u201d<\/a><\/strong>, Prof. Haidegger addressed the evolving role of robotics in surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that systems like the da Vinci robot already assist in millions of procedures annually, offering precision and minimally invasive access\u2014yet they remain teleoperated and reliant on human control. Based on his 15 years of research, Prof. Haidegger showed that while fully autonomous surgery remains a long-term vision, certain tasks are already being automated. Studies demonstrate that machine learning models can outperform novice surgeons in some precision tasks. With large surgical datasets, robots can even predict the next step in an operation more consistently than humans.
